Shilpakala holds programme to facilitate jatra

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a 2-day programme to facilitate jatra at its Studio Theatre Hall on Thursday and Friday.

A total of seven jatra troupes from across the country participated in the programme, titled ‘Jatra Shilper Nobo Jatra’, which was the eleventh programme organised by the academy to streamline the registration process for jatra troupes under the Jatra Development Regulation 2012.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has been organising programmes to facilitate jatra since 2012.

On Thursday, the opening day of the programme, three Narsingdi-based jatra troupes staged their productions at Studio Theatre Hall.

Dipti Natya Sangstha staged ‘Shagor Bhasa’ directed by Md Hasan, Sabita Natya Sangstha staged ‘Rupban’ directed by Majid Mia and Sumi Natya Sangstha staged ‘Alomoti Premkumar’ directed by Sahidullah Bahar.

On Friday, the concluding day of the festival, troupes from Kushtia, Khulna and Bogura staged their productions at the programme.

Nobo Probhat Opera staged ‘Megh Dhaka Tar’ directed by Bikash Sarkar, Rajmahal Opera staged ‘Manobi Debi’ directed by Pranab Mondal, Balaka Opera staged ‘Mayer Chokher Jol’ directed by Md Masudul Haque and Probhas Opera staged ‘Kalankito Nayak’ directed by Showmen Babu.

In the previous editions of the festival, a total of 111 jatra troupes from across the country have registered with the academy, which also cancelled registrations of 15 troupes.

A panel of judges comprising S M Mohsin, Ramendu Majumdar, Badrul Anam Bhuiyan, Afsar Ahmed, Taposh Sarkar, Milan Kantri Dey and Nasiruddin Yousuff evaluated the performances by the troupes.

The deserving troupes will be able to register themselves.
