Khulna division edged out Rangpur division to earn a narrow one-wicket win in the final day of their National Cricket League fourth round match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Mahedi Hasan and Ziaur Rahman made 56 and 53 respectively to guide Khulna to 203-9 while Sohrawordi Shuvo claimed 6-55 for Rangpur.
With the win, Khulna ascended to the top of the tier-one table with two wins and two draws.
Dhaka division earned an innings and four-run win over Rajshahi division, after bowling them out for 241 in the second innings at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy ground in Cox’s Bazar.
Both the tier two matches of the round came to a conclusion on the third day with Sylhet division beating Barishal division by an innings and 32-run in Cox’s Bazar while Chattogram division suffering an innings and 64-run defeat against Dhaka Metro at their home ground.
Khulna v Rangpur
Khulna resumed play on 130-5, still requiring 73-run to win the match and their overnight pair of Mahedi and Zia got them closer to the target, reaching their fifties on the process before both falling to Suhrawordi with the score on 184-7.
Mahmudul Hasan then struck in consecutive deliveries to send back skipper Abdur Razzak (two) and Rubel Hossain (0) to reduce them to 187-9.
Moinul Islam (16) and Abdul Halim (two) then batted for a little over seven-over to score the remaining 14-run and gave their side the second win in the ongoing NCL.
Earlier, Khulna gained a nine-run first innings lead after posting 233 in reply to Rajshahi’s 224.
Razzak claimed 12-140 in the match to become the first Bangladeshi to reach 600 first-class wickets.
Dhaka v Rajshahi
Resuming their second innings on 77-3, still trailing Dhaka by 168-run, Rajshahi lost overnight batsman Junaed Siddique (41) early.
Sabbir Rahman and fellow overnight batsman Nazmul Hossain then made 58 and 51 respectively and were supported by a brisk 31-ball 28 from Farhad Hossain but Rajshahi couldn’t avert the innings defeat after losing their last three wickets for 21-run.
Saif Hasan and Nazmul Islam claimed 3-15 and 3-58 respectively for Dhaka.
Earlier, Dhaka rode on hundreds of Shuvagata Hom, Talibur Rahman and Nadif Chowdhury to post 475-7d in the first innings in reply to Rajshahi’s 230.
Khulna v Rangpur
