Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Rajasthali unit vice-president Dipamay Tangchangya, 45, was found killed at Taitong Para of Rajasthali in Rangamati on Wednesday morning, 16 hours after he was reportedly abducted by some unidentified people on Tuesday.

Dipamay was also the headman of Ghilachari mouja and former union parishad chairman of Rajasthali.

Police said locals saw his body at about 7:00am beside Naraichari-Haludiya road at Taitong Para and called police.

Villagers and sources in police said Dipamay, a construction contractor in profession, along with three others went to monitor road construction works awarded by 26 Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army.

He was abducted on his way home at Zero Mile area in the upazila.

The abductors later released the three other people — Shuresh Kanti Tangchangya, Gandhi Tangchangya and Nasir Uddin —  and left the spot after firing blank shots.

The released people later went to the police station to inform the incident.

Rajasthali police officer-in-charge Mofazzal Ahmed Khan said they were investigating into the matter but the motive behind the abduction and murder was still unknown. No case was lodged yet.

He said after tracing Dipamay’s body, locals closed their shops and limited running of transports on roads.

The situation became normal in the afternoon, he said.
