Theatre troupe Subachan Natya Shangshad will stage the 125th show of its popular production titled ‘Mohajoner Nao’ on Friday at Experimental Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Mohajoner Nao is a musical play based on the life and philosophy of Baul Shah Abdul Karim. It has been written by Shakoor Majid and directed by theatre activist-teacher Sudip Chakraborthy.

The troupe will stage the play marking Shah Abdul Karim’s 10th death anniversary.

Like myriad folk bards of the region, Shah Abdul Karim often used the metaphor of a ‘nao’ or a boat to refer to a man’s soul, which is given to him for a brief span of time by the mohajon, or the creator.

This sufi line of envisioning of the soul serves as cornerstone to the folk belief-systems in this part of the world.

This theme appears as a subtext while the play narrates the life of Shah Abdul Karim. The play abounds in songs, and has also been presented with vibrant choreography.

Ahammed Gias, Ansar Ali, Asadul Islam, Imtiaz Reza, Imran Hossain, Tanvir Ahmmed, Fazlul Huq, Roksana Tuli, Rupa Nasrin and others will act in the play.

The play has already received huge acclaim at both home and aboard.

Besides Dhaka and few other places in Bangladesh, Subachan has staged the play in South Korea, London, Bhutan and different states of India.

The event will also feature a discussion where thespian Mamunur Rashid and poet Mohammad Sadik will speak on the philosophy and life of Baul Shah Abdul Karim.
