Film Producers’ Assoc polls held

Voters gather in front of the venue during an election of Bangladesh Film Producers’ Association in Dhaka on Saturday.

The first phase of Bangladesh Film Producers’ Association polls was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation in the capital on Saturday.

The day-long polls began at 9:00 am and ended at 4:00 pm at Zahir Raihan Projection Hall at BFDC. A total of 130 voters out of 140 cast their votes.

Deputy secretary of commerce ministry Mirazul Islam  announced the election’s result as the chief election commissioner.

A total of forty-one candidates competed for 19 posts in the election.

Film producer Khorshed Alam Khasru received the highest number of votes. Besides, the voters elected eighteen others namely Shamsul Alam, Ispahani Arif Jahan, Golam Md Kibria Lipu, Mehedi Siddique Monir, Himel, Rashidul Amin Holi, Jahid Hossain, AJ Rana, Mohammad Hossain, Iamin Haq Boby, Kamal Hassan, Apurba Ray, Nadir Khan, Shahidul Alam Sacchu, Ela Jahan Nadi, Iqbal, Danny Sydak and Alimullah Khokan.

The second phase of the election is scheduled to be held next week where a 10-member executive committee will be elected.

‘We are grateful to the voters who have elected us. We will try our best to fulfil their  hopes and expectations after we take the office,’ said Khosru after the results were announced.

‘The new committee will work to ensure the development of the film industry,’ he added.
