People from all walks of life celebrated Pahela Ashar, the advent of Monsoon, amid festivities on Saturday morning at Bangla Academy.
Young women clad in blue and white saris and men wearing colourful panjabis gathered in front of academy’s Nazrul Mancha where artistes from different cultural organisations welcomed monsoon presenting songs, poems and dances.
The programme titled ‘Borsha Utsab 1426’ was organised by Dhaka city branch of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi.
Classical musician Ebadul Haq Saikat commenced the programme presenting a sitar recital.
Following which, artistes of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi presented dance recitals synchronised with the song Nao chhariya dey and others.
In solos, popular Nazrul Sangeet singer Bijon Chandra Mistri rendered Borosha oi elo borosha, Biman Chandra Biswas rendered a traditional song Ashar maisha bhasha panirey and Aniket Acharja sang a Tagore song Anondo dhara bohichey bhuboney.
Besides, singers Nahian Durdana Shuchi, Maisha Sultana Urbi, Mahmud Selim, People’s song singer Sohana Ahmed and others performed at the event.
Renowned recitation artiste Rafiqul Islam recited a rhyme Brishti penned by Independence Award winning poet Nirmalendu Goon, Munmun Khan recited Borshar Kobita by Sukumar Ray and Emoni Borosha Chhilo Sheydin by Pronob Roy, among others.
Udichi Badda branch artistes presented group dance recitals synchronised with songs like Pagla hawar badal diney and Chhata dhoro hey deura.
Spandan artistes presented dance recitals synchronised with the song Megh natir oi nupur baje jhumur jhumur and others to the delight of the audience.
Swapna Bina Gaaner Dal artistes presented a group violin recital.
Besides, Udichi Kafrul, Uttara, Savar, Gendaria, Jagannath University Sangsad and other
branches performed at the programme.
Udichi Central president Dr Shafiuddin Ahmed , general secretary Jamshed Anwar Topon, Udichi Dhaka city branch president Nibash Dey and general secretary Iqbalul Haq Khan, among others, were present at the programme.
