Three held for raping Netrakona RMG worker

Police have arrested three people in Guzbazar area of Kendua upazila over the reported gang-rape of a female readymade garment worker.

The arrested are — Tipu Mia, 23, son of Rango Mia, Anwar, 24, son of Sabuj Mia, and Amir Hamza, 24, son of Abdul Kadir, all residents of village Bairati of the upazila.

Prime accused in the case, Nur-e-Alam, was yet to be arrested, the police said.

Kendua police officer-in-charge Md Rasheduzzaman said that they arrested the perpetrators on Friday night and Saturday morning.

He also said that the victim filed a case with the police on Friday afternoon.

On primary interrogation, the arrested confessed to the police about their involvement in the incident, the OC said.

Introducing himself as Sumon, Nur-e-Alam, son of Abdul Hamid of the village Bairati, had developed a relationship with the victim of village Maska in the same upazila while working at the same sweater factory in Gazipur.

They came to their villages to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. Nur-e-Alam invited the girl to visit his house and took her for touring the area by a motorcycle on Thursday.

Nur, along with the victim visited different places.

They reached Guzbazar in the evening when he told her that the motorcycle went out of service.

He then made a phone call to someone. Soon three youths appeared and took them to a brick kiln forcibly where the trio raped the female RMG worker in turns after tying Nur up.

However, all of them, including Nur, fled the scene later leaving the victim behind, the case statement said.
