Different government and cultural organisations are set to celebrate the 120th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. There will be diverse programmes organised across the country today.
The main celebration programme will be organised by cultural affairs ministry at Trishal in Mymensingh at around 3:00pm.
Education minister Dr Dipu Moni will be present as the chief guest while state minister for cultural affairs KM Khalid will preside over the programme.
Visva Bharati University vice chancellor Professor Bidyut Chakrabarty and chairperson of parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Religious Affairs Md Hafiz Ruhul Amin Madani, among others, will be present as special guests.
Acting secretary of cultural affairs ministry Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal will deliver the welcome speech while Rabindra University vice chancellor professor Biswajit Ghosh will deliver Nazrul memorial speech.
Besides, artistes of Nazrul Institute will entertain the audience by presenting songs, dance recitals synchronised with Nazrul’s popular songs and poem recitations at the event.
Different district and upazila administrations will hold cultural programmes, Nazrul fairs, discussions etc, marking the day where artistes will entertain the audience presenting songs, dances and recitations.
Bangla Academy will pay tribute to the poet placing floral wreath on his grave at Dhaka University mosque premises at 8:00am.
On May 26, the academy will hold a solo lecture and cultural show on Nazrul at 11:00am.
Bangla Academy director general Habibullah Siraji will deliver the welcome speech at the event while Dhaka University Bengali department Professor Dr Soumitra Shekhar will deliver a solo lecture. National Professor Anisuzzaman will preside over the programme.
Following the discussion, a vibrant cultural show will be held at the venue where artistes will present Nazrul’s songs, recitation and others.
Chhayanaut will hold a cultural show at its Ramesh Chandra Dutt Hall at 11:00am. The programme will feature popular songs of Nazrul, dance recitals, recitation, discussion etc.
Besides, BTV, Bangladesh Betar and other private television channels will telecast special shows marking the day.
