The Cumilla University authority on Sunday celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year 1426, amid festivities and enthusiasm.
The celebration programme featured cultural show, Baishakhi fair and others.
A colourful Mangal Shobhajatra, led by CuU vice-chancellor professor Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury, was brought out at around 10:00am on CuU premises.
Teachers and students, clad in festive clothing, carrying motif-based masks and replicas of animals participated in the procession, which started from in front of the university administration building and walked through different streets on CuU campus.
A cultural show was held at the university’s Baishakhi Chattar where teachers and students entertained the audience presenting traditional songs, dances, poem recitations and others.
Besides, the Baishakhi fair on the campus attracted a huge crowd. It featured different stalls displaying traditional craft items, pithas, sweets and more.
