The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday requested government to reduce the interest rate on home loan to 5 per cent and the existing flat registration fee to 6-7 per cent from current 12 per cent.
At the moment, banks charge around 8-10 per cent interest on home loan. In a meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee relating to Ministry of Housing and Public Works held at the FBCCI office in the city, the business leaders also urged the government to increase the time frame of repayment of the home loans to at least 10 years for the interest of middle-class buyers.
According to the decision, the apex trade body would hold housing fair to promote the business of the housing sector.
The committee, however, did not set any date for the fair and decided that it would be held at a suitable time.
Liyakot Ali Bhuyan, chairman of the standing committee, presided over the meeting while director in- charge of the committee Rashadul Hossain Chowdhury, vice president of FBCCI Md Muntakim Ashraf and the directors of the trade body attended the meeting.
