Popular troupe Mahakal Natyasampradaya staged a charity show of its acclaimed production Shibani Sundori at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
The proceeds from the show were donated to a fund set up by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation for helping ailing theatre practitioners.
Written by Salam Saklain and directed by Debashish Ghosh, Shibani Sundari, is not based on any established ballad rather the play has been developed in the style of a ballad.
Shibani Sundari revolves around Shibani, the daughter of a rich merchant, who falls in love with Nandan Kumar, son of a hermit named Sadananda. His father wants Nandan to become a sage which requires him to follow a life of celibacy.
When Nandan protests at his father’s decision Sadananda tells him to leave. An extremely saddened Nandan leaves his father’s house and seeks shelter in the forest. The rest of the story shows how Shibani sets out on a perilous journey in search of Nandan.
