Delhi police on Wednesday detained Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi while trying to meet the family of a former army soldier Ram Kishan Grewal who allegedly committed suicide over the One Rank One Pension issue.

‘I don't have anything to say, police will do what it has to for risk reduction,’ union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Rahul Gandhi's detention.

However, Rahul Gandhi was released from Mandir Marg police station after being detained for a while, Indian agencies reported.

One Rank One Pension, a longstanding demand of ex-servicemen, grants retired armed forces personnel pension parity with officers and soldiers of the same rank who are retiring now.

There were chaotic scenes at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where the family had been camping since Wednesday morning and refusing to allow the post-mortem unless the demand of OROP was met.

They claimed that Ram Kishan had martyred himself for the cause and they would settle for nothing less than the implementation of the OROP.
