Domestic help found dead, employer held

Police recovered the body of a domestic help from the flat of a teacher at Pilkhana in the capital on Sunday while the body of another woman was found in Sabujbagh area.

The domestic help, Laily Akhter, 16, was found dead on the third floor of a building in the Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters area.

Laily was working at the house of Farzana Akhter, a teacher of Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College.

New Market police sub-inspector Chapa Sultana said that they detained Farzana for interrogation and a case was on the process to be lodged.

Police said that the body bore marks of injuries and Laily might have died from beating.

The victim’s mother, Shaymola Begum, a homeless beggar, alleged that Laily was tortured to death by Farzana.

Laily, a native of Lakshmipur, started working at the house eight months ago at the salary of Tk 1,000, the mother said.

She said that Farzana used to prohibit her to meet her daughter and Laily had complained to her mother about frequent torture by the flat-owner.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

In another incident, police recovered the body of an unidentified woman in front of a building at Bank Colony of Sabujbagh.

The woman in her thirties had stab injuries.

Sabujbagh police sub-inspector Priotosh Chandra said that the body was left abandoned wrapped in a rag.

Police said that the assailant slit her throat, stabbed in the face and other parts of the body.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
