Leaders and activists of Jagannath University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Tuesday protested at the recent renaming of the Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman High School into Puran Mughaltuli High School.

They brought out a protest procession in this connection on the campus at about 10:00am under the banner of ‘Jagannath University Chhatra Dal’.

Condemning the move of renaming the school, JCD leaders said that the government was trying to erase the name of Ziaur Rahman getting scared of his immense popularity.

They threatened for a tougher movement if the name is not restored.

JCD leader Kazi Zia Uddin Baset led the rally.

Another faction of JnU unit Chhatra Dal, led by Mehedi Hasan Himel and Abid Kamal Rubel, also staged demonstrations in Raysaheb Bazar area in this connection.

On March 25, 2006 the then undivided Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka established the Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman High School in Mughaltuli area.
