A youth carried out a knife attack on the personnel of Brahmanbaria police station in the afternoon on Tuesday, injuring one policeman.

The police nabbed the youth who introduced self as Mobasshar.

The incident occurred at about 4:45pm when the young man intruded into the police station and attacked with a knife.

The Brahmanbaria police superintendent Anisur Rahman said they assumed that the man was mentally challenged.

‘We are inquiring into his details,’ he said, adding, ‘one of our colleagues was injured while he was trying to neutralise the suspect.’

The police headquarters and the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police were inquiring about the motive of the incident.

One of the witnesses, Shimanto Khokon, also a journalist of a local newspaper, told New Age that he was there and suddenly saw the police were warning people to leave the place.

‘The man was asking the police to shoot him. He was also trying to attack me and as I said “I am a journalist”, he turned back,’ said Khokon, who filmed the scene.

The video shows that police and the local people were beating him with sticks to dissuade him.
