The police are yet to arrest any suspect in the case filed for the attack on a Buddhist temple at Lohagara upazila in Chattogram early Sunday.
A group of people attacked the Buddhist temple and vandalised idols and valuable furniture.
Lohagara police officer-in-charge Zakir Hossain said that the president of the temple Joy Sen Barua filed a case in this regard.
He said that police could not arrest anyone yet and they were investigating the incident.
He further said that the incident occurred early Sunday at Bibirbila Shanti Bihar (Buddhist monastery) of Charamba union of Lohagara.
Shanti Bihar principal Dharma Tilak Bhikkhu said that at about 12:30am on Sunday he went to the roof of the Bihar hearing noise near the road of Shanti Bihar and saw an arbitration going on at a shop of a local, Md Selim.
He also saw a police vehicle, Dharma said, adding that local elites were present there.
Later, at about 3:00am when he was sleeping, he said, about 45-50 young men chanting slogans against the Buddhists entered the Bihar and vandalised the idols and furniture.
They also broke the windows, surrounding walls of the Bihar and kicked on the door of Dharma’s room several times, he added.
