Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday selected its Dhaka city BNP joint-secretary and Dhanmondi thana BNP president Sheikh Rabiul Alam Rabi to contest by-polls to Dhaka 10 constituency.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement after a meeting of the party’s parliamentary nomination board with the aspirant candidates at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in Dhaka.
He said that the party also decided to nominate Bagerhat district BNP leader Quazi Khairuzzaman Shipon for contesting for Bagerhat 4 constituency and Gaibandha district BNP president Syed Mainul Hasan Sajid for Gaibandha 3 by-elections.
The BNP leader said that on February 24 the party would announce the names of the party candidates for Bogura-1 and Jashore-6 by-polls and Chattogram City Corporation elections.
On February 5, the Election Commission announced the schedule for by-elections to Dhaka 10, Bagerhat 4 and Gaibandha 3 constituencies, fixing March 21 as the polling date.
The EC on Sunday set March 29 to hold elections to Jashore 6 and Bogura 1 by-polls and Chattogram City Corporation elections.
Dhaka 10 constituency fell vacant after Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh resigned on December 29 to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation elections while Gaibandha 3,
Bagerhat 4, Bogura 1 and Jashore 6 constituencies fell vacant following the deaths of AL lawmakers for the constituencies.
On Saturday, ruling Awami League announced its candidates for the by-polls and Chattogram city polls.
