Matiur Rahman gets bail in case filed over Abrar’s death

A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to daily Prothom Alo editor and publisher Matiur Rahman in a case filed over his alleged negligence that caused death of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar Rahat.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam granted the Tk 2000 bail when the editor surrendered before the court and sought for bail.

Earlier, the High Court Division on January 20 granted four weeks’ anticipatory bail to Matiur Rahman in the case.

The court Division also directed the police not to arrest or harass the editor, its deputy editor and monthly magazine Kishor Alo editor Anisul Hoque and four others until it heard their bail applications.

Naimul Abrar Rahat, a Class IX student of Dhaka Residential Model College student, was electrocuted on November 1, 2019, during a programme organised by Kishor Alo.
