Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon and two others on Friday collected nomination forms to contest the by-election to Dhaka 10 constituency on the last day of colleting nomination forms.

Sayeed Khokon, a member of ruling Awami League’s central executive committee, was denied to contest recently held polls to DSCC where Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh contested and own resigning from parliament as lawmaker for Dhaka 10.

Including Friday’s three, 10 people have collected Awami League’s nomination forms to contest the by-election to the constituency which fell vacant at the resignation of Taposh.

The nine others are— former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, former Chhatra League leader Dr Abdul Wadud, AL leaders and activists  Yead Ali Fakir, M Bashir, Adam Tamizi Haque, Moazzam Hossain Khan Mojlish, M Kuddusur Rahman, ASM Kamrul Ahasan and Kazi Morshed Hossain Kamal.

Several aspirants also collected nomination forms to contest in the by-elections to Bogura 1, Bagerhat 4, Jashore 6, and Gaibandha 3 constituencies.

AL office secretary Biplob Barua said that a meeting of AL nomination board led by AL president Sheikh Hasina will be held today to select the candidates for by-polls to all the constituencies.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that only Dhanmondi thana unit BNP president Rabiul Islam Rabi had collected party nomination form on Friday while two other aspirants contacted the central office to seek party nomination.

The by-election to Dhaka 10 as well as Jashore 6 and Gaibandha 3 constituencies will be held on March 21. The last date of submission of the nomination forms to the Election Commission is February 19.
