Popular poet Nirmalendu Goon is undergoing treatment at the Coronary Care Unit of LabAid Hospital in the capital.
Goon, who is suffering from respiratory tract infection, was hospitalised on Wednesday at around 10:30pm. He has been kept at the CCU of the hospital under the supervision of cardiologist Baren Chakrabarty.
‘He has been suffering from pneumonia. His kidneys have also been damaged. He is still in the CCU. We might keep him there for few more days. His condition is quite stable now,’ said Baren Chakrabarty.
Mrittika Goon, daughter of the poet, requested all to pray for her father’s quick recovery.
‘My father is improving gradually but it might take some time as he is very old. Previously, he suffered from heart complications. Now he is suffering from kidney issues. I urge all to pray for my father’s recovery,’ said Mrittika Goon.
Nirmalendu Goon emerged as a poet in the 1960s. He published his first collection of poems namely ‘Premangshur Rakta Chai’ in 1970.
He has published around 100 books including his collections of poems, biography, translation and story books till date.
‘Na Premik Na Biplabi’, ‘Kabita Amimangshita Ramoni’, ‘Dirgha Dibash Dirgha Rajani’, ‘Chaitrer Bhalobasha’, ‘O Bandhu Amar’, ‘Chashabhushar Kabya’, ‘Chirokaler Banshi’, ‘Ami Samayke Janmate Dekhechhi’, ‘Batsayan’ and others are few of his significant books.
Nirmalendu Goon has received several awards including Independence Award (2016), Ekushey Padak (2001) and Bangla Academy Award (1982).
