Students of Barishal Government Polytechnic Institute staged a sit-in and held an agitation rally on Thursday demanding regular holding of their second shift classes.
The students blocking the entrance of the institute staged sit-in at about 11:00am to press home their 10-point demands.
The demands included regular holding of their second shift classes, appointment of new teachers for second shift, reform and upgradation of the laboratories, development of residential accommodation for students and increase in the number of seats.
Luthfar Rahman, student of civil engineering faculty of the institute, said that they would go for tougher movement to fulfill their demands from Saturday.
Principal of the institute engineer Muhammad Nurul Islam said that they informed concerned authourities about the demands of the students.
Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Barishal Kotwali police station, said police went to the spot and additional police had been deployed in the area and the situation was under control.
