‘This is a historic victory. The cabinet has expressed its heartiest felicitations to our under 19-cricket team for becoming the world champion for the first time by defeating the four-time champion India in the ICC Under-19 World Cup,’ Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader told a press briefing at his secretariat office.
He said that the reception would be accorded at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka following the return of the team.
The minister said that the prime minister while presiding over the weekly cabinet meeting in her Tejgaon office said the young tigers would be accorded a grand reception for clinching the maiden championship title in the ICC Under-19 World Cup for Bangladesh.
‘The cabinet has decided to celebrate the historic victory…The young tigers have raised our expectations,’ Obaidul said, adding the team had earned such a victory for the first time after the country’s independence in 1971.
He expressed hope that Bangladesh would once win the ICC World Cup.
In a press release on Sunday, Nobel laureate professor Muhammad Yunus congratulated the Bangladesh Under-19 team for its historic victory in the world cricket.
