Theatre troupe Nagarnat Sylhet staged its play ‘Baichal’ at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium at Rikabibazar in Sylhet on Friday.

The play was staged on the seventh day of the ongoing seventeen-day theatre festival that has been arranged by Sammilita Natya Parishad Sylhet, a platform of the local theatre troupes, in association with the cultural affairs ministry, Sylhet District Council and Sylhet City Corporation, marking the International Mother Language Day.

Golam Shafiq has written ‘Baichal’ which is directed by Ardhendu Das.

The play portrays the traditional Nouka Baich (boat race), which is popular in rural areas of the country.

Sadly, the traditional boat races are not organised regularly nowadays due to river grabbing and filling up of water bodies.

Mozammil Hossain, Anirban Roy, Pias Khan, Joya Hossain, Rony Bhushan Das, Rajon Pal, Saptarshi Das, Jyoti Prakash Das Talukder, Devapriya Pal, Rayhan Chowdhury Saikat, Ujjal Chakrabarty, Hridoy Mazumder Apu, Shyamali Das and Rupali Das, among others, performed different characters in the play.

After the show, freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu handed over the festival souvenir to the activists of Nagarnat Sylhet.
