The muster-roll employees of Rajshahi University on Monday continued their one-hour work abstention programme for the consecutive fifth day, demanding regularisation of their jobs.
More than hundred muster-roll employees of the university gathered in front of the martyred intellectuals’ memorial and staged a sit-in from 11:00am to 12:00pm to press home their demand.
The employees said that they had been serving university on daily basis for more than 25 years. But the authorities were dilly-dallying in appointing them permanently in their respective posts.
RU Muster-Roll Employees Oikya president Masudur Rahman said they had been urging the university authorities for long to appoint them on permanent basis. ‘But the university authorities appointed new employees instead of regularising us’, he alleged.
They said that they would go for a tougher movement if their demand was not met by Wednesday.
Earlier on January 26, the muster-roll employees sat in front of the university vice chancellor’s house. The employees called of their sit-in on the day after syndicate member Professor Humayun Kabir assured them of meeting their demand.
However, they went on a work stoppage on January 27 as the university authorities did not take any decision about them at the university’s 467th syndicate meeting on January 26.
