Jatiya Party lawmaker Kazi Firoz Rashid on Monday said that the anti-government movement of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal led by Hasanul Haque Inu after the country’s independence had paved the way for the killing of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding president.
Inu’s party had killed a large number of Awami League and Chattara League activists in that time, said the lawmaker while participating in the thanks giving motion on the president’s speech in the parliament.
He slammed Inu for criticising him following his demand of ‘crossfires’ to kill rapists. He said that Inu and some other people criticised him ignoring the inner meaning of his demand.
On January 14, senior members of treasury and opposition benches, including Firoz, demanded in parliament that the law enforcement agencies should kill rapists in so-called ‘crossfires’ to bring an end to the spree of rapes in recent times.
Taking floor on the point of order, they also demanded that the government should amend the law incorporating provisions of death penalty for the rapists.
