Chattogram fire burns 200 shanties

A fire burnt down more than 200 shanties in Anu Majhir Ghat area of West Madarbari in Chattogram city on Monday morning.

Chattogram divisional fire service acting deputy director Azizul Islam said that the incident occurred at about 5:00am in a slum illegally built on railway’s land.

After receiving the news of the fire, 15 vehicles from four fire service stations rushed to the spot, he said.

They brought the fire under control at about 7:50am, the fire service officer said. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Fire service personnel could not immediately provide information about origin of the fire or the value of the asset burnt in the fire.

Earlier, on January 24, a fire broke out at a slum in the Sulakbahar area of the port city. On January 31, another fire broke out in another slum in the same area. No casualties were reported in these incidents.
