Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Friday morning with respiratory complications.
He was taken to the hospital about 10:30am as he felt breathing complication, doctors and AL leaders said.
He is now undergoing treatment at the coronary care unit of the BSMMU.
Obaidul attended a meeting at AL president’s office in Dhanmondi in the morning. He fell sick during the meeting and was rushed to the BSMMU.

‘He is under observation,’ he said.

‘His blood pressure had gone up but it became normal later,’ he said.
Quoting doctors at the BSMMU, Naser said, ‘As he is a cardiac patient,
they are examining him... His condition is normal now.’
AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak at a press briefing in front of BSMMU about noon said Obaidul’s condition was stable and he was out of danger now.
‘A board of expert physicians is looking after him,’ said Nanak urging AL leaders and activists not to gather at the hospital but to concentrate on the Dhaka city elections to be held on Saturday.
