The Bangladesh authorities are in touch with the Chinese government for extending emergency support and safety to Bangladesh citizens staying in the country amid Coronavirus outbreak.
The foreign ministry said in a press release on Saturday that the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beijing had established contact with the Chinese authorities in case emergency supports were needed for the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates anywhere in China, Wuhan province in particular.
The embassy made the call for support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China as a section of Bangladeshi student appealed in a Facebook group to arrange transports to help them making their way out of Wuhan.
The ministry said that there were about 300 to 400 Bangladeshi students in Wuhan and the Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing was in touch with them and Chinese government researchers in Wuhan.
The Bangladesh embassy in Beijing has opened a hotline number +86 178-0111-6005 for round the clock to reach out in case of any emergencies.
The hotline number has been circulated to expatriate students and researchers.
Amid the outbreak of coronavirus in China and globally, Chinese officials have restricted transport in at least 13 cities near the virus epicentre, Wuhan, locking down close to 56 million residents. The death toll rose to 41 till Saturday morning.
