The protesting teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University brought out a mask procession on the campus demanding removal of vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam for her alleged involvement in corruption and irregularities.

Against ‘Blind Journey of University’, they gathered in front of University’s Shahid Minar around 5:00pm under the banner of Jahangirnagar Against Corruption on Wednesday.

The protesters also termed the VC a patron of hooliganism and staged demonstration in front of VC’s residence in a rally.

Addressing the rally, Rakibul Rony, general secretary of JU Chhatra Union said, ‘We feel ashamed that our VC is involved with corruption. Government silence is abominable.  We will continue our protest.’

They also threatened to go for tougher movement if their demand was not met soon.

Shahidul Islam Pappu, general secretary of JU Cultural Alliance, conducted the programme.

Shovon Rahman, convener of JU Chhatra Front, said, ‘We started our protest in a mask procession. We don’t want to tolerate a sycophant and corrupt VC on our campus.’

JU Chhatra Front (Marxist) president Mahathir Mohammad said, ‘Our protest is not only against VC, it’s against all injustice and corruption.’

The agitated students of JU have been demonstrating on the campus since August 23, demanding judicial probe into the alleged corruption and irregularities by VC.
