Gopalganj university teachers call 3-day work abstention

Teachers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology university in Gopalganj called a three-day work abstention from January 20 to January 22 protesting at the harassment of teachers.

They announced the work abstention after forming a human chain in front of the university academic building at about 11:00am.

At the human chain, Md Abu Saleh, president of BSMRSTU Department Chairman’s Association, alleged that the teachers of BSMRSTU were harassed, persecuted and threatened by a group of people for a long time but the authorities didn’t take any legal step yet in this regard.

‘The teachers of the university are now feeling insecure due to the unforeseen events and it is not possible to continue teaching in this unsecured condition,’ he added

Meanwhile, in last three months, at least eight teachers including Khosrul Alam, chairman of Economics department, Abdullah Al Jubayer, chairman of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering department, Md Shafiqul Islam, chairman of Pharmacy department, Dipankar Kumar and Quazi Moshur Rahman, students’ adviser of BSMRSTU, were harassed and threatened by a group of people including students.

Among them Khosrul Alam, chairman of Economics department got life threat by one Wali Ullah, a Masters student of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering department. Wali Ullah claimed himself as a BCL activist.
