Kishoreganj-based Islam Uddin Palakar Dol entertained the audience rendering traditional ‘Pala Gaan’ on Bangladesh Shilpakala premises on the 16th day of the on-going Bangladesh Cultural Festival 2020 on Saturday.
The troupe comprising Islam Uddin, Mabhu Mia, Abdul Alim, Billal Mia, Alamin and Abul Hasem rendered the songs, which portray life and culture of rural Bengal.
‘Pala Gaan is very popular in rural areas. We are performing Pala Gaan for the last 32 years. I was taught to render the songs by my grandfather. It is unfortunate that people are gradually losing interest in traditional performance art forms. I thank Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for organising the cultural festival. I hope the academy will organise this event regularly from now on,’ Islam Uddin told New Age.
The festival on Saturday commenced with rendition of the national anthem.
Cultural troupes from Sylhet, Barishal and Natore districts performed at the event.
Artistes entertained the audience presenting traditional songs, dances, recitations and others.
Three documentaries on Sylhet, Barishal and Natore were also screened.
Besides, members of acrobatic troupe of BSA performed stunts including Cap Dance, Hula Hoop, Blanket Balance, Pipe Balance and others.
