Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim on Friday added a new feather to his crown when he became the highest run-getter as a Bangladeshi batsman in a single edition of Bangladesh Premier League.
Mushfiq, who had several records to his name in the most extravagant domestic Twenty20 competition of the country, scored 470 runs for Khulna Tigers before the final of the latest edition.
The 32-year old needed only seven runs to surpass Tamim Iqbal’s record of scoring highest 476 runs in a single edition of BPL, which the latter scored for Chittagong Vikings in the fourth edition.
Mushfiq, who came down at number five position of Khulna innings, struck pacer Kamrul Islam over the midwicket area for a six to complete the feat.
Mushfiq, however, failed to take his to his side to
victory as he was bowled by Andre Russell after making 21 off 15 balls and ended the tournament with 491 runs, four runs behind of his team-mate Rilee Rossouw (495).
It was the second time for Mushfiq to score most runs as a Bangladeshi batsman in
a single edition of BPL as he earlier made highest 440 runs for Sylhet Royals in the 2013 edition of BPL.
Mushfiq had a flamboyant run in the latest edition of the tournament with four fifty-plus scores when he came close of completing his maiden Twenty20 hundred twice in the tournament.
He fell short of four and two runs against Rajshahi and Cumilla Warriors in the league-phase despite succeeding to lead his team to victory on both occasions.
But in the final Mushfiq again choked as a batsman and failed to embrace maiden BPL title.
