Ismail regains fastest man title

Bangladesh Navy athlete Mohammad Ismail regained his status as the country’s fastest man after winning gold medal in 100m sprint in the 43rd National Athletics Championships at MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.

Ismail, who lost his crown to Hasan Mia in the Summer Athletics Championships in August last year, clocked 10:40seconds (hand-time) to regain the status.

Hasan of Bangladesh Army clocked 10:50 seconds to finish second while Abdur Rouf of Bangladesh Navy finished third, clocking 10:60 seconds.

Bangladesh Navy’s Shirin Akter maintained her dominance t in the women’s 100m sprint as she clocked 12:10seconds to win gold ahead of Bangladesh Army’s Sharifa Khatun, who took 12:30seconds.

Sonia Akter of Army won the bronze medal clocking 12:60 seconds.

After the end of the first day’s events, Bangladesh Navy topped the table with six gold, four silver and four bronze medals followed by Bangladesh Army with three gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
