Theatre troupe Theatre Art Unit staged Anuddharonio at Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.

The play has been adapted and directed by Mohammad Bari. It is based on late popular Indian Bengali poet Buddhadev Bose’s short story with the same title.

The play depicts anomalies like lack of democracy, hunger, lack of freedom of speech in society and others through conversations between a poet and his fan named Amit.

The duo gets into an argument. Amit argues with the poet on issues like state control, society, politics, literature and art. He alleges that contemporary poets and intellectuals are afraid to criticise the government.

Amit at one stage takes the poet hostage. Law enforcers come to rescue the poet and surround

the house. Amit brings out a gun and aims it at the poet. The stage becomes dark and a gunshot is heard.

The play ends with a cliff-hanger, leaving the audience in suspense.
