Popular fusion band Chirkutt has turned 18 and all members are super excited about it.
The band has already lifted the curtain on its 18th anniversary celebrations by performing in concerts held in Barishal and Rajshahi and there’s a lot more to come.
According to Sharmin Sultana Shumi, vocalist of Chirkutt, the band plans to perform at different concerts scheduled to be held at both home and abroad throughout the 2020.
She gave a glimpse into Chirkutt’s plans for the 18th anniversary celebrations in an interview with New Age.
‘We are all very excited. It is no mean feat for a band to complete 18 years. We will perform at concerts across the country. We will also play gigs abroad. We have been invited to perform at concerts in Australia, Nepal, Singapore and a few European countries. We also have plans to perform in the United States, even though, as yet, nothing has been finalised,’ said Shumi.
When asked whether Chirkutt will release new songs or albums marking its 18th anniversary, Shumi replied, ‘We have a surprise in store for the music lovers. We don’t want to disclose anything right now. We will hold a press conference soon where we will announce our anniversary celebration plans.’
Chirkutt’s current line-up comprises Emon Chowdhury (guitar), Pavel Areen (drums), Sharmin Sultana Sumi (vocal), Didar (bass) and Nirab (keyboard).
The band has been performing since 2002.
In the last five years, the band got huge response for its songs like Duniya, Kanamachhi, Ahare Jibon and others.
The band also bagged the Channel-i Music Award 2018 in the Best Playback Music Category for the song Ahare jiban, which was recorded for Mostafa Sarwar Farooki’s film Doob.
‘I am very thankful to our fans for their support. They inspire us to push ourselves harder. I hope they will continue to stand beside us in the future,’ Shumi ended.
