Narail-based Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Lathiyal Dal entertained the Dhaka audience presenting traditional lathi khela (tricks with sticks) at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on the eighth day of Bangladesh Cultural Festival 2020 on Friday.
The troupe displayed various tricks with sticks including Jaal Khyap, which portrays everyday life of fishermen, Doel Naach, where the troupe members moved like the oriental magpie-robin, Daal Ghoton, Sajer Khela, Chhoti Lathi, Boro Lathi and others.
A total of 25 artistes of the troupe performed at the venue.
‘Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Lathiyal Dal was founded in 1965 for promoting lathi khela, a popular sport in rural areas. We perform lathi khela during occasions like Independence Day, Pahela Baishakh and others. We also perform in various festivals across the country,’ Anisur Rahman, president of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Lathiyal Dal, told New Age.
‘I want to thank Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for inviting us to Bangladesh Cultural Festival. We received huge response from the audience,’added Anisur Rahman.
Besides, cultural troupes from Chuadanga, Jessore and Narail districts performed at the festival on Friday.
Artistes entertained the audience with traditional songs, dances, recitations and others.
Besides, members of acrobatic troupe of BSA performed stunts including Cap Dance, Hula Hoop, Blanket Balance, Pipe Balance and others.
The 21-day Bangladesh Cultural Festival 2020 began on January 3.
The event is featuring traditional sports, dance recitals, instrumental recitals, jatrapala, acrobatic shows, puppet shows and others.
The festival will end on January 23.
