The 43rd edition of the National Athletics Championships will be held on grass at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram from January 16 to 18.
Some 500 athletes from 64 districts, universities, education boards, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan and affiliated service teams will compete in 36 events of the meet.
Male athletes will compete in 22 events while female athletes in 14 events of the national meet, sponsored by Chattogram City Corporation.
Port city Chattogram is going host this national championship for the fifth time but first time after a gap of 14 years.
The meet was last held outside Dhaka in 2005, also in Chattogram.
The main objective to organise the competition outside the capital is to encourage the district-level athletes, said Bangladesh Athletics Federation secretary Abdur Rakib Montu at a press conference on Saturday.
The poor condition of the track at the Bangabandhu National Stadium also prompted the federation to make the decision, he said.
The federation said it would also mark the birth centenary of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through this event.
The organisers said they also have planned to host several domestic events alongside an international event, the SAFF Junior [Under-20] Athletics Championships, in November to celebrate the year.
