Health minister Zahid Maleque on Saturday asked the journalists to take permission from the authorities concerned for entering into Rajshahi Medical College Hospital premises.
‘You can enter the hospital but you have to take permission from the hospital director first,’ he said while replying to a question of a journalist after exchanging views with doctors at a meeting at the RMCH.
The health minister said journalists should know there were many types of patients under treatment in the hospital including serious patients. ‘We have to think about their health safety and infection first. Therefore, it is not possible to allow everyone to go everywhere.’
This system is not only for Rajshahi Medical College Hospital or for Bangladesh, it was also in practice around the world, the health minister noticed.
Earlier in April 2017, intern doctors attacked journalists at the hospital with sticks while the newsmen were taking the pictures of beating the relatives of a patient by the intern doctors.
At least ten journalists were injured in the attack while Jamuna TV cameraperson was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Following the incident, the hospital authorities banned journalists’ entry into the hospital.
