Police arrested at least 29 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and filed a case against 675 people on Wednesday night for the alleged attack on police.
Bogura sadar police sub-inspector Zilalur Rahman filed the case on Wednesday night as at least 11 people, including five police personnel, were injured when leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal locked in a clash with police in Bogura town on Wednesday.
Police and witnesses said that several hundred leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal gathered at Khokon Park to mark its 41st founding anniversary.
They said that when the police asked a number of Chhatra Dal activists, who went to the Shaheed Minar altar in the park without putting off their shoes, to leave the altar, Chhatra Dal activists attacked police with sticks of placards leading to the clash at about 12:00pm, said Sanatan Chakraborty, additional superintendent of police in Bogura.
He said that he himself, assistant sub-inspector Md Ashraful, constables Sifat, Mamun and Parvez were injured in the attack.
He said that police detained 11 Chhatra Dal activists for their alleged involvement in the attack and filed a case against 75 named accused and about 600 un-named accused.
Bogura district unit Chhatra Dal general secretary Nure Alam Rigan claimed that they sought permission from the police to observe the 41st anniversary at Titu Auditorium but they asked them to arrange the programme at their party office.
He alleged that police suddenly began to charge them with truncheon when they gathered at Khokon Park to go to the party office in a procession at about 12:30pm.
He said that six Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were injured in the police attack and that police picked up at least their 29 fellows form the spot.
