Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader on Wednesday said that the party would hold ‘peaceful programmes’ addressing the contemporary problems to attract the wider range of people.
While addressing the party’s 34th founding anniversary celebrations programme at JP’s central office in Kakrail, Quader said that the party would have to capitalise the on-going political turmoil for strengthening its organisational capacity.
‘We have to involve more people with our programmes as they need a change against the backdrop of the political turmoil prevailing in the country,’ Quader said.
Jatiya Party, he said, was the modifying factor in the national politics for assuming power of the two major parties. ‘But we will have to take the leading role,’ he said.
He also said that the party leadership proved the critics wrong who said that JP would divide into factions and would disappear after the death of the JP founder HM Ershad.
JP senior co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud explained the reasons for forming the party by Ershad in 1986 on its founding anniversary celebrations programme.
JP secretary general Mashiur Rahman Ranga and co-chairmen ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Syed Abu Hossain Babla and Salma Islam called for unity under the leadership of Quader for developing a stronger political party.
Their urges resonated through the JP activists, who chanted ‘Narayan Takbeer Allah Hu Akbar’ slogans.
