A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Nateswar of Sonaimuri in Noakhali early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Mokhlesur Rahman alias Dacoit Subal, 38, of village Durgapur in Begumganj.

Sonaimuri police officer-in-charge Abdus Samad said when a patrol team of police challenged a gang of robbers around 12:45am they opened fire on the police officials, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered the gunfight.

After the robbers fled the scene, the law enforcers took bullet-wounded Subal from the spot. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Noakhali General Hospital.

The police officer said Subal was the leader of a robber gang. There were 11 cases filed against him with different police stations.

Arms and ammunitions were also seized from the spot.
