Suspected robber killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion personnel at Rajapur in Pabna sadar upazila on early Tuesday.

The dead is Md Amin Sheikh, 40, of village Payda under in the upazila.

He is accused in 11 cases, including three murder cases, RAB officials said.

On information, an operation team of Pabna camp of RAB-12 raided on Rajapur area at about 3:00am on Tuesday when a gang of robbers were taking preparations to commit robbery, said Md Aminul Kabir Tarafder, commanding officer of RAB-12, Pabna camp.

When the operation team reached the spot, the suspected robbers opened fire on RAB and the operation team retaliated by firing that triggered a ‘gunfight’ for about 15 minutes that left Amin dead on the spot but his accomplices fled the scene, Aminul claimed.

RAB seized a pistol, three cartridges and two knives from the spot, he said.

The dead is accused of 11 cases including three for murder RAB said adding that the accessed and his gong were holding robbery since long.
