Feni Election Commission filed a case against a woman, wife of a Bangladeshi expatriate in the United States, for registering her name in the electoral roll in 2017.
The accused is Ayesha Zhuang Zening Akthar, who is not staying with her husband Maidul Haque in the US. Maidul is a permanent resident of village Kaishalla in Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni.
Feni sadar upazila election officer Afroza Parvin said the woman was included in the voter list from Feni Pilot Government College registration centre in 2017.
An Election Commission investigation found that she was a Chinese citizen, she said. Following order from the EC, she filed the case against Ayesha with the Feni police station on Thursday, Afroza said.
She also said that departmental action was initiated against Feni upazila election office office assistant Abdul Zabbar for including her name in the voter list.
Feni police inspector Sajedul Islam said police started investigation into the matter.
