An Awami League activist was shot dead and five others were injured on Sunday in a clash between two AL factions over establishing control on a sand quarry at Gopal union under Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district.
The deceased was identified as Md Siraj, 35, supporter of upazila joint general secretary Zulfiqar, local people said.
Chhagalnaiya police officer-in-charge (investigation) Shahidul Islam said there had been a longstanding conflict between Zulfikar and Azizul Haque Manik, Gopal union general secretary, over the control of the sand quarry.
‘Siraj was shot dead on the spot during the clash between the two factions,’ he added.
