Bodies of 3 of a family found, probes initiated

An elderly lady, her son-in-law and grandson were found dead at Solia Bukpur in Banaripara of  Barishal on Saturday.

Police after being informed by the local people rushed to the spot and found the bodies. Later, they sent the bodies to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

One suspected person was detained for interrogation over the incident.

Zafar Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Banaripara police station, said the dead bodies were identified as Mariam Begum, 70, Shafikul Alam, 60, a retired teacher and husband of her daughter Mamtaz Begum, and Md Yusuf, 22, grandson of Mariam Begum.

Police said they found the body of Shafikul Alam from a room of the house and hand-legs tied body of Md Yusuf, beside a pond behind the house.

Teams of Rapid Action Battalion, Police Bureau of Investigation, and Criminal Investigation Department  visited the spot and launched separate investigations, said the OC.

Police already detained one Zakir Hossain, 40, a construction worker, suspecting his involvement with the deaths.

Barishal range additional deputy inspector general of police Muhammad Ehsanullah, Barishal  , superintendent of police Saiful Islam, additional superintendent of police Abdur Raqib, visiting the spot assured family members and local people about proper investigation and arresting the killers.

Police said there was no mark of injury on the bodies but strained bloods were visible near their noses, police added.

Misrat Begum, 26, wife of Abdur Rob, the Kuwait expatriate son of Mariam Begum, said after taking dinner the members of the family went to sleep in other rooms.

Mariam’s granddaughter Afia first traced the body her grandmother when she went to call her for fazr prayers, said Misrat.

At Afia’s screams, other members of the family rushed to the spot and they later found Shafikul’s body hanging and Yusuf’s body lying beside the pond, Afia said,

Both said they did not hear any sounds from their rooms.

Harunor Rashid, younger son of Mariam, said Shafikul Islam came from his home in Swarupkathi to visit his mother-in-law two days ago and scheduled to go Dhaka in next couple of days.

Yusuf often sleeps at the house of Mariam Begum to guard the house as other male members do not live there, he said.

Some gold ornaments remained missing from almirah, Misrat said.
