The four-day ‘Ocean Dance Festival 2019’ ended in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
The concluding day of the festival featured performances by local and foreign dance artistes and seminars attended by local and foreign researchers.
Artistes entertained the audience by presenting classical and contemporary dance at Cox’s Carnival Auditorium in the evening.
Taiwan-based Chia Yew Su University, Hong Kong-based artiste Weing Me Pack, Indian artiste Sumedha Bhattacharya, local dancer Shamni Akter, local dance organisations Sadhona, Nayeem Khan Dance Company and others performed on the concluding day of the festival.
Cox’s Bazar 3 constituency MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal, Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Mohammad Kamal and others were present as special guests at the closing ceremony.
‘International festivals like ‘Ocean Dance Festival’ can promote popular tourist destinations of our country in the international arena. Such festivals should be organised on a regular basis,’ said Saimum Sarwar Kamal.
‘Ocean Dance Festival 2019’ commenced on November 22. It was organised by Nrityajog, the Bangladesh Chapter of World Dance Alliance – Asia Pacific (WDA-AP). The annual meeting of WDA-AP was also held during the festival.
The four-day festival was also supported by cultural affairs ministry and Bangladesh Tourism Board. The theatre department of Chittagong University was the academic partner and Mattra and Channel-i were event partners of the festival.
A total of 119 local and 81 foreign dancers, teachers, researchers and choreographers from fifteen countries including Taiwan, Korea, Canada, USA, Australia and other South Asian countries participated in the festival.
