Dhaka Metro batsman Shamsur Rahman hit a century against Sylhet division in a rain-hit opening day of their National Cricket League fifth round match at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Saturday.
Metro rode on Shamsur’s 114 to reach 282-7 in their first innings at stumps with Rejaur Rahman claiming 4-49 for Sylhet.
At Bogura, Suhrawardi Shuvo made 57 as Rangpur reached 110-5 in their first innings against Dhaka.
The remaining two matches of the day, the tier one encounter between Khulna and Rajshahi in Dhaka and Barishal’s tier two match at home against Chattogram, failed to commence due to bad weather.
Metro v Sylhet
Sent to bat, Metro lost opener Azmir Ahmed (10) early before Shamsur and Rakin Ahmed (48) formed a 98-run second wicket stand.
Enamul Haque jnr then struck twice to reduce Metro to 124-3 before Shamsur formed a 126-run fourth wicket stand with Al-Amin (69) to take their score to 250-3.
Metro then lost four wickets for just 32-run with Rejaur claiming all of them and Shahidul Islam (eight) and Nihaduzzaman (zero) remained unbeaten at stumps.
Dhaka v Rangpur
After a two-hour delay due to wet outfield, Dhaka reduced Rangpur to 0-2 inside two overs after sending them to bat.
Shuvo and Naeem Islam (23) formed an 80-run stand to consolidate the innings before Rangpur lost three quick wickets to be reduced to 104-5.
Tanbir Hyder (six) and Nasir Hossain (five) were unbeaten when the play stopped after only 41 overs due to bad light.
Salauddin Sakil and Shahadat Hossain took two-wicket each for Dhaka.
