Mahedi gives Khulna lead

Robiul Haque’s five-wicket haul for Rangpur division was countered by Khulna division all-rounder Mahedi Hasan’s hundred as their National Cricket League fourth round match was evenly poised at stumps on day three in Dhaka on Sunday.

Mahedi hit 119 as Khulna secured a vital first innings lead, making 233, replying to Rangpur’s 224. Rangpur reached 67-4 in their second innings at the end of play in Mirpur to lead by 58 runs.

In Chattogram, the home division were all out for 91 runs replaying to Dhaka Metro’s 403 runs as Shaifullah and Taskin Ahmed shared seven wickets between them.

Talibur Rahman and Shuvagata Hom remained unbeaten on 93 and 92 respectively as Dhaka division reached 284-4 in their first innings to take a 54-run lead over Rajshahi division in Cox’s Bazar.

In the other match in Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet division rode on fifties from Shanaj Ahmed and Zakir Hasan to post 322 in their first innings against Barishal division.

Khulna v Rangpur

Resuming play on 24-2, Khulna lost six wickets in the first session, and were left stranded on 80-8. Mahedi and Rubel Hossain (36 not out) then formed a 133-run stand for the ninth wicket to avert disaster for their team.

Mahedi, who hit 15 fours and one six in his counter-attacking innings, was finally dismissed by Mukidul Islam and Robiul then dismissed Abdul Halim (three) to complete his five-for and wrap up Khulna innings.

Khulna captain Abdur Razzak, who took 7-69 in the first innings to become the first Bangladeshi to reach 600 first-class wickets, struck thrice in the latter half of the day to complete his 11th 10-wicket haul.

Metro v Chattogram

Metro managed to add 46-run to their overnight score of 357-4, to be bundled out for 403 in their first innings with overnight centurion Shadman Islam finishing on 178.

Metro pace duo Sharifullah and Taskin then ransacked Chattogram top-order, claiming all six top-order wickets, finishing with 4-30 and 3-34 respectively to earn a massive 312-run first innings lead for their side.

Metro enforced follow on, and the pace duo removed Chattogram openers inside four overs but Pinak Ghosh hit an unbeaten 55 and remained unbeaten with Tasamul Haque (14) with Chattogram’s score on 96-3.

Dhaka v Rajshahi

Dhaka began their reply to Rajshahi’s first innings score of 230 and were reduced to 104-4 with Sunzamul Islam taking three wickets.

Talibur and Shuvagata then formed an unbeaten 180-run stand to place Dhaka 54-run ahead in the first innings at stumps.

Barishal v Sylhet

Resuming on 82-1, replying to Barishal first innings total of 162, Sylhet were bundled out for 322, to earn a 160-run lead in the first innings with Shanaj and Zakir scoring 73 and 53 respectively.

Barishal reached 12-1 at stumps with Fazle Mahmud and Mohammad Ashraful unbeaten on seven and two respectively.
