Rangpur division will be pushing for a win on the final day of their National Cricket League third round match after reducing Rajshahi to 129-6 in their second innings at stumps on day three in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
Rajshahi currently lead Rangpur by 56-run after the latter were bundled out for 274 in their first innings at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground.
In the other match in Cox’s Bazar, Khulna rode on fifties from Imran Uzzaman and Anamul Haque to reach 145-2 and lead Dhaka by 200 at the end of the day’s play.
In Rajshahi, the tier-two match between Chattogram and Sylhet finally took the field after the first two days were washed out.
Chattogram players Pinak Ghosh and Ifran Hossain made their mark with a blistering hundred and a five-wicket haul respectively as they ended the day leading Sylhet by 28-run.
The other tier-two match in Bogura between Barishal division and Dhaka Metro didn’t see any action for the third consecutive day due to wet outfield.
Rajshahi v Rangpur
Resuming their first innings on 263-6, Rangpur could add only 11-run to their overnight tally but they were enough to give them a sizable 63-run first innings lead.
Sohrawordi Shuvo struck twice to reduce Rajshahi to 32-2 early, but Junaeed Siddique (34) and Shakhir Hossain (29) steadied their innings with a 67-run stand for the third wicket.
Rajshahi then lost three wickets for one run as Mahmudul Hasan dismissed the pair and Tanbir Hyder removed skipper Farhad Reza for a duck to reduce them to 100-5.
Tanbir dismissed Moheimenul Khan (six) late in the day as Muktar and Sunzamul remained not out on 19 and two respectively at stumps.
Khulna v Dhaka
Resuming on 206-2, while replying to Khulna’s first innings total of 371, overnight batsmen Saif Hasan (72) and Roqibul Hasan (56), who were unbeaten on 41 and 38, completed their respective fifties before getting dismissed with the score on 267-4.
Talibur Rahman (31) and Nadif Chowdhury (19) then added 35-run for the sixth wicket stand before Mahedi Hasan and Abdur Razzak ransacked Dhaka’s lower order, claiming their last five-wicket for just six-run to hand Khulna a 55-run lead.
Mahedi and Razzak finished with 4-92 and 3-72 respectively.
In reply, Khulna lost Robiul Islam for a duck before Imran (66) and Anamul (61 not out) formed a 106-run second wicket stand to give Khulna a handy lead.
Chattogram v Sylhet
Sent to bat, Sylhet were bundled out for a meagre 163 in their first innings as Ifran (6-57) and Hasan Mahmud (3-49) claimed nine-wicket between them for Chattogram.
Pinak struck a blistering 100 off 83 balls, and was supported by Sadiqur Rahman’s 37, as Chattogram ended the day on 191-6 with Mahidul Islam (two) and Mehedi Hasan (one) unbeaten.
