Police detained a youth at the house of slain madrassah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi at Uttar Charchandia in Sonagazi of Feni early Saturday.
The youth, Jasim Uddin of Kutubkhali in Banshkhali of Chattogram, was arrested at about 2:00am amidst security concern of Nusrat’s family.
Nusrat’s family said relatives of convicts issued threats to them after all the 16 accused in the case of killing Nusrat by setting her afire were sentenced to death on Thursday.
Feni superintendent of police Khondoker Nurunnabi said Jasim came to the house by an auto-rickshaw and the locals and police detected inconsistency in his words and later detained him and took him to Sonagazi police station.
Nurunnabi said they contacted Jasim’s family over phone and his brother informed that he had been suffering from mental disorder.
He said they would hand over Jasim in his brother’s custody and claimed that police had been providing security for Nusrat’s family.
An Alim examinee from Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrassah, Nusrat, 18, daughter of AKM Musa of Uttar Charchandia, was set afire on the roof of her examination hall on April 6 and she succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
